Herald Square Hotel
May 14-24, 2011
New York arguably has the most expensive accommodations in the US. Just check on Trip Advisor or Hotels.com or even Google and you will find eye popping tariff on nightly accommodations. We were on a limited travel budget so we were in the market for a “economy hotel”.
We chose the Herald Square hotel...

I had to find a room for the night with about a week's notice. Based on the positive tripadvisor reviews, I decided to go with this hotel as I wanted it to be near Penn Station and didn't want to spend a fortune as I would only be spending one night.
Pros: I arrived at 10 a.m. hoping to drop...

Room is terrible: VERY small, only bed fits, no even space for luggage. One little window, view of a wall. I suggest: either go to more expensive hotel, or rent private appartments for that money (200$ per night for that room is TOO much even for NYC, imho)

Location, location, location. Almost right under the Empire State Building, near the Flatiron building, in walking distance of Union Square etc. How central can one be?
Room 208 had no view but was very quiet, no sounds of the traffic outside and no noise of other guests nor elevators. It is clear that the rooms have been thoroughly refurbished recently...

One fact is tremendously clear about the Herald Square Hotel, you can tell that they are working very hard to do well. Even as you walk down 31st street towards the building, the hotel front stands out as the only clean building on the block.
Pros: Building has been recently remodeled from top to bottom. New mattresses (I can't stress...

I have stayed in a few NYC hotels and this one was by far the best ever. I stayed in a queen size new room, loved the hardwood floors! I didn't have to worry about whose been on the carpet! Bathroom was beautiful and spotless! Only problem was it took awhile to get warm water but it's an old building....

This hotel is on w31st between 5th & 6th avenues. We stayed 10 days March into April to visit our son. It is so well located you can walk uptown to Central Park, Times Square or downtown to Greenwich, the Financial District (twin towers site) Staten Island ferry, (which is free and goes right past the statue!) Little Italy etc...

I spent 2 nights at this hotel. It's located on a quiet one-way street. We were on the 8th floor in a room facing the street. This hotel is definitely no-frills, but a good location and price for NYC. The room was very basic, but the beds were VERY comfortable. We didn't sample the beverage service in the lounge area,...

I traveled with 3 girlfriends for a weekend of fun to NYC. We have stayed in other hotels up there, and Herald Square Hotel is quite different than the typical NYC hotel room (which is usually 4 walls around the bed and hardly any floor space). The hotel is secure, the staff are polite. We were surprised at how much...

Convenient location, but room was small even by ny standards. It would have been ok if not for the shower situation. No matter how hard we tried to adjust the water temperature, it was either scalding hot or freezing cold! We avoided showering because of it! I just wanted to let people know this because most of the reviews of...
