This was the perfect location to stay for my daughter's graduation from the New School. We were walking distance to her apt in the East Village and a longer walk to the University. The staff were really nice and helpful. My brother and wife were able to get the last room at 151 Houston a block away for $50 more/night...

Make sure you are not staying in the basement rooms – they try to trick you by numbering these rooms starting with #7. I had my hopes up but found my room in the basement with almost no window, broken cabinet, only 2 hangers, and, worst of all, the small window was facing right onto a busy street. Every night...

Hotel is well located on border of a number of interesting neighborhoods, close to subway , next door to Whole Foods and reasonably priced. The front desk people were very friendly and helpful. Beds were also very comfortable.
Only complaint was that room featured microwave and mini fridge that did not function. When I moved fridge to see if it...

We had been staying this hotel over 3 years. We like the location. However, we somehow did not enjoy that much as before this time.
First off, the room we stayed was very noisy because the layout of the room that the bed is right next to the window. Secondly, they did not provide hand soap. We had to use...

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Gem hotel for 0 days in September. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was small but expected for NYC and most importantly the room was very clean without that overbearing chemical/ faux floral smell. The only complaint was that the air conditioner was loud and at that time of...

Fab hotel in a great location with excellent staff. Be aware rooms are really small but if you're planning on exploring then you'll only be sleeping here so not a big deal.
2nd Ave subway less than a 100m walk so ideal.
Plenty of eating places in the area. Try 'Sugars' for breakfast soooo much more pleasant than Katz.

I shortlisted this hotel coz of 2 reasons - (1) all the reviews were brilliant (2) free internet. However, the property did not meet my expectation at all ! It is a brilliant location ie. very close to Soho/Broadway and probably thats the reason I stayed on here. There was no B'fast available (which I was aware of) but no...

Just returned from 6 nights in NYC at the Gem Soho and were really pleased with the hotel. For our trip we were looking for a clean, comfortable hotel that was reasonably priced and the Gem more than fit the bill. As others have mentioned the rooms are tiny (hence my slightly lower rating on Rooms) but cleverly designed to...
