I'd read about the Gellert as it was where some of the actors and football players stayed when making the film 'Escape to Victory' in 1981 and it always sounded special. It was fantastic! The rooms are a bit worn but the spa facilities are magnificient and the staff super-friendly, and the sumptuous breakfast sets you up for the day....

If you want a hotel similar to a Hilton/Radisson/Marriott this is not for you. The Gellert is from an older era and this is what gives it its charm. We had room 319, on the fornt of the hotel with a superb view of the Danube - although some people may be disturbed by the traffic, its not overly irritable....
