This enormous cemetery has its own resident historian, Jeffrey Richman, who wrote a book on the cemetery's history that has brief bios of the most famous people buried there. Notable is the grave stone with a nearly full-sized bear perched on it. Less crowded (well, with live people) and at least as beautiful as Prospect Park.

I have wandered about Green-Wood Cemetery on several occasions, but this was the first time I took the trolley tour. Marge Raymond was the guide and is a wealth of information about the cemetery and those - both famous and not - buried there. She's also a cabaret singer and entertained us with a couple of songs at appropriate moments...

I have lived in Brooklyn for 6 years - 6!!!! and I just visited Green-Wood for the first time in the fall of 2010. I have been back 3 times since then and have taken every visitor visiting me there too. It's a sanctuary in the middle of NYC - beautiful, clean, quiet, peaceful, etc, etc. JUST GO!!!

In the 20 years I have been visiting Green-Wood Cemetery as a history buff, it has become more accessible, cleaner, greener, and more accomodating to visitors. The names of its permanent residents (Bernstein, Gottschalk, Wheatley, Rehan, Morse, Beecher, Cooper, Phyfe, etc.) provide a starting place for exploring the history of the New York Area and Brooklyn, in particular, which you can...

A most wonderful time spent in Green-Wood Cemetery. It must be said that Green-Wood is as much a place of life as it is one of death. And you will truly come in touch with your own as you meander about on its majestic grounds. Most of my photographic works come from this one place. An inspiration each and every...

Green-Wood is one of those urban attractions that almost make you forget that you are in an urban environment (there are some wonderful views of NYC from the higher elevations). I live nearby and go there several times a year to"get away from the city". The past really comes alive here. Not only do the "permanent residents". represent a wide...

Absolutely amazing memorial statues throughout that are a peek into a world long gone (Late 1800's).

It was actually 2009 when we visited Green Wood. My WIfe & I went to NYC for our honeymoon and, when planning our trip found the cemetery's torch-light tour which sounded right up our street! Our evening there turned out to be a highlight of our honeymon! The staff and volunteers were brilliant and the light-hearted but fascinating history we...

I have taken a couple of trolley tours (every Wednesday and the last Sunday of each month). These are very informative and enjoyable. The trees and plantings are beautiful, as well as some great views of the harbor. The stories are very interesting and, at times, amusing. In August I went on the Battle of Brooklyn trolley tour. If it...
