Even though there are plexiglass panels surrounding the lookout deck, there are gaps in between in which you can hold your camera for unobstructed views. No wait at all and the same view as the Empire State Building, but much safer feeling! LOVED IT! I recommend doing both (Empire State Building & Top of the Rock) one at night and one during the day.

We went to the Top of the Rock to watch the sunset. You get amazing views of the Empire State Building as well as Central Park and the rest of New York. I think the views are better than the Empire State Building but would recommend doing both.
