Our Featured Cruise - The Tahitian Princess

Since our first featured land destination is the Cook Islands, I did some hunting to find a cruise line that stopped there too. It wasn't easy hunting, but I found one major cruise line that was just starting to visit there. It turns out the Princess Cruise line has just recently started cruising to Tahiti and the South Pacific since December of 2002. Check out their exclusive itinerary here

The ship's name is the Tahitian Princess which was formerly the Renaissance R4. Renaissance Cruise Line went out of business shortly after the September 11th attack. The ship was docked until Princess purchased it in 2002 and completely renovated it to be christened the Tahitian Princess.

The ship is considered, by today's standards, a medium sized ship at 32,277 tons. Many people prefer the smaller ships rather than the mega ships because they have a more personal feel about them. They seem more like a cruise ship rather than a floating hotel. The interior of the ship has been completely remodeled and now features rich woodwork , lush upholstery and beautiful draperies. The ship’s showcase is a "Titanic" type staircase featured in the Purser’s lounge area.

Another desirable feature for some people is the Personal Choice dining option that Princess has gotten rave reviews for. If you choose to dine this way, you will not have to hurry back from shore tours to make a scheduled dinner time.

Fortunately for those who prefer a more intimate cruising experience, this ship is back in service and cruising to some exotic locations. Former passengers are likely to be pleased with the changes on this ship but still marvel at its personal service and attention that Renaissance was known for.

We are pleased to be able to bring you a personal review of this ship from Ed Schlenk. He sailed on the Tahitian Princess on January 23, 2003. Ed has included some extremely helpful and interesting information and we hope that you find it useful in making your cruising plans.

In hunting for a deal on this 10 night cruise, I found it at Travelocity (search under South Pacific-Tahiti) starting $999. There is one itinerary that includes the Cook Islands. You can also go to our Resources Page and look at the price from many other web-sites at the same time, comparing them side-by-side.

I could also help you hunt for a price if you send me when you want to go by e-mailing me at:lee
